The Directorate of Oceanography & Meteorology is a component of the Royal Australian Navy's Hydrographic Force Element Group. The Directorate consists of four elements as outlined below:

Defence Oceanographic Data Centre

In addition to operating as the Defence Oceanographic Data Centre, the DODC operates as the National Oceanographic Data Centre for Australia within the guidelines established by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). In performing this role, the DODC participates in various national and international oceanographic data collection, exchange and management programs.

Operational METOC Centre

The principle function of the OMC is to support the ADF through the provision of advice to enable greater military understanding and improved utilisation of the physical operating environment and the development of oceanographic and meteorological products. Personnel within the OMC deploy as Mobile METOC Teams (MMT) at sea or in the field to advise Command and also provide support through environmental briefs and METOC training.

Nowra Weather and Oceanography Centre

Located at the Naval Air Station (NAS), HMAS ALBATROSS, NWOC supports the Fleet Air Arm, providing all necessary environmental information (meteorological and oceanographic) for their safe operation and tactical deployment. The primary support provided is through meteorological forecasts and warnings to NAS Squadrons and ADF units, and surface and upper air observations to the Bureau of Meteorology.
